Reflection (by end of Week 2 of June Holidays)

Deadline: End of Week 2 of June Holidays

Task: Using template from Pages, produce a 'professional travelogue' (like those in magazines) with reflection, learnings, insights and understanding of your adventure experience. The article must answer the following questions:

1) What new discoveries have you made about yourself from the adventure experience?
2) How do you think these new discoveries are going to impact your life in the future?
3) What else have you learned and what were the incidents that lead you to these learnings?
4) Before your adventure, what does life mean to you?
5) After the adventure, how has the experience shaped your understanding of the meaning of life?
6) What is your understanding of C.A.R.E.S.? Illustrate the true spirit of C.A.R.E.S. with incidents from the trip.
7) Select a picture that would show what life and adventure is about making a connection between the two.
8) Finally, write about your emotions, achievements, ups and downs of the whole trip.

Note:
Please write in pros like any other professional articles and not answer the question one at a time. You will have the autonomy to organise the article anyway you want to make it a nice read. You may include other insights not covered by the questions above. There is no limit to the number of pages you want to write as long as there is substance and quality.

Send your article to Mr Aidil (aidil_idris@sst.edu.sg), Ms Sheryl Gythri (sheryl_gythri@sst.edu.sg) and myself (lam_hin_chew@sst.edu.sg)

Looking forward to your writings!

Energy Conservation

Ways:

Why Conserve the Environment?

There are so many reasons. The earth has finite resources and these resources are often exploited for short term profit gain while the natural areas that were destroyed in order to mine the resource are lost forever.

Impact if we don not Conserve the Environment

The whole world is one big ecosytem, so destroying one part of it will have an impact on another part. For example the extinction of a bird which eats mosquitoes could result in an increase in malaria. So we are effected as well if nature is destroyed. We need trees to convert Co2 into oxygen.

Many wildlife need certain habitats in order to survive and will or have become extinct if their habitats are destroyed. So protecting natural areas helps maintain the biodiversity of plants and animals. There is a certain tree in India which has not germinated in 300 years. It is thought that the seeds of this tree needed to be ingested by the dodo which has been extinct from approximately the same time this tree stopped flowering.

Sea levels will rise, causing a decrease in land which is covered by water and the food production will drop drastically when lands being used to plant crops are flooded.

Ecotourism (Singapore)

Ecotourism in Singapore. Is it a possibility, do we have ecotourism? If so, what are they?

The definition of ecotourism, according to http://www.untamedpath.com, is “responsible travel to natural areas which conserves the environment and improves the welfare of the local people”. The natural areas involve remote areas, whether inhabited or uninhabited, and are usually under some kind of environmental protection at the national, international, communal or private level.

In Singapore, although a concrete jungle, still has the possibilities of ecotourism. Places such as Bukit Timah Nature Resrerve, the Central Catchment Nature Reserve, Pulau Ubin and Sungei Buloh Nature Park offer us the opportunity to explore these green-lung areas instead of being surrounded by the constant high density buildings. So it is possible to turn these places for Eco Tourism destinations.
